This is Geek Alabama birthday week. And for my first post this week, I wanted to talk about Democrats in Alabama. Let’s face it, Democrats do a terrible job in Alabama. They cannot find the right messaging. They cannot find the right candidates. And they cannot find the appropriate infrastructure to deliver their message.
So, in this post, I wanted to talk about 10 ways Democrats can come back in Alabama.
1: Reform The State Democratic Party
The Alabama Democrat party is in complete chaos. The current leadership of the state party does not care about all the Democrats. They only care about one type of a Democrat, African Americans.
I have seen the chaos from social media when the Alabama Democrat party tries to hold a convention, and only caring about African Americans, which only makes up a little over 30% of Alabama’s population, it will never work.
A couple years ago, when the state Democrat party was run by more competent people, we were getting somewhere. Now, Democrats are in the dumps.
So, if Democrats in Alabama want to even have a chance to win, the state Democratic Party must be completely overhauled from top to bottom.
2: Talk Radio and Podcasts
A couple years ago, RFK Jr. Said while traveling through Alabama that he can only listen to right wing talk radio or Christian talk radio. And he is right, Republicans dominate radio infrastructure in Alabama. And many people in Alabama still listen to the radio. Democrats simply do not care and keeps relying on NPR which may be going under soon.
And it’s not just talk radio anymore, it’s also podcasts. Republicans are starting to run away with it with podcasts as well. Democrats just do not have the infrastructure in place, and it causes them to continually lose every election cycle. You must have talk radio and podcasts in Alabama!
3: Alabama’s News Websites And Local TV News
Many people in Alabama are addicted to Fox News. But many people in Alabama also watch local TV news. And the local TV stations are increasingly going right wing.
Station owners like Sinclair and Nexstar, only present a right wing view of a story. And this pretty much shuts out Democrats. But it’s not only TV news.
It’s also news websites. Alabama has terrible coverage when it comes to news websites. Websites such as Yellowhammer News and 1819 News are pretty much running away with it. And both of those websites are right-wing.
Meanwhile, websites such as Alabama Political Reporter, Alabama Reflector, and AL.com, are being left in the dust. I can go into much more detail, but to be clear, Alabama must have better news coverage for Democrats. And no, you’ll never see another fairness doctrine.
4: Social Media Infrastructure
One thing I find very amusing about Democrats, is they rely on TikTok in hopes they can be elected. And I just shake my head, because TikTok will not help any Democrat win in Alabama!
You would like to know what is the number one social media platform in Alabama? It’s Facebook! And by a lot! Democrats in Alabama have simply ignored Facebook, and they are also ignoring YouTube. YouTube is the number one streaming platform in the world by a huge margin!
Democrats in Alabama cannot ignore YouTube! I wonder why Democrats continuously ignores where the vast majority of Alabamians are on social media. Because it’s a recipe to continuously lose!
5: Churches and Religion
Alabama is one of the most religious states in the country. And Alabama has the highest number of people who regularly goes to church. Democrats in Alabama cannot ignore the religious community like they do now.
And I hate saying this, but it means Democrats in Alabama must moderate on some of their positions, such as pro-choice and abortions. Yeah, it sucks to say that. But that is the reality here in Alabama.
6: Young Men and Women
You are seeing more young men and young women going conservative. And this is picking up steam in an alarming rate. Democrats are ignoring young people. And if Democrats cannot figure out how to attract younger people, they will never win again.
And if Democrats want to attract younger people, they need to talk about things young people are interested in. And what are young people interested in today? Video games, UFC Fighting, YouTube videos, technology, Netflix, and sports!
7: Football and Sports
if there is one thing Democrats in Alabama must do to attract voters. They must talk about things Alabamians are interested in. And the number one topic in Alabama, football!
Yes, Democrats in Alabama must talk about football! Especially high school and college football. You don’t have a choice in this, it’s a must! Democratic politicians must also attend high school and college football games during the fall, this is where the community goes!
And it’s not just football, they also need to talk about NASCAR, basketball, baseball, hunting, fishing, and other sports Alabamians are interested in.
8: Community Events
Lately, Democrats have been holding protests all across Alabama. And these protests are only attracting a small handful of people. I wonder why Democrats in Alabama think that protests are going to convince people to vote Democrat? Because that is a stupid belief!
What should Democrats do instead, they need to go to community events all throughout Alabama. Democrats should attend community events and talked to people in person. It’s that simple!
9: Attracting Rich People
Democrats keep talking about taxing rich people a huge amount. Democrats are really good in villainizing rich people. And Gee I wonder why rich people always goes to Republicans?
I know Democrats want to overturn Citizens United, but that is never going to happen! The only move Democrats have is to attract rich people and big businesses. You simply don’t have any other choice. Because any Democrat campaign must have money to run a campaign.
10: Relying on Minority People
Democrats in Alabama continue to mostly rely on minority people such as African Americans and Hispanics. But this is a very stupid and dumb strategy. Because if you have noticed, African Americans and Hispanics are rapidly becoming conservative.
Democrats must attract Caucasian people! You simply have no other move! Which means Democrats in Alabama must moderate on some of their positions, sorry that is the truth!
So, there you have it, this is what I think Democrats have to do to have any shot in winning in Alabama. Will they listen? I sure hope so!
