Crowdsourcing Mornings: Seed Smart Water Bottle

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing Mornings

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

It may be easy to drink water, but according to the latest research, 95.3% of people do not have good water consumption habits—65.9% drink water only when thirsty, while only 4.7% regularly drink healthy amounts of water. Although water deficiency causes poor health and various diseases, we still always forget to drink enough. Water is essential to leading a healthy life, so they invented Seed, a smart bottle that helps you subconsciously form healthier habits.  Seed actively tracks your daily hydration habits and uploads real-time data to an app or other smart fitness device where you can check your progress. Users can receive scientific feedback while managing their hydration plan in their app.

Seed’s built-in smart water consumption algorithms compute your body’s hydration needs according to water intake, body composition, daily activity level, and outside temperature. With this information, Seed will custom design a water intake schedule that meets your individual needs. Through small vibrations and the LED display, Seed will remind you when you have forgotten to drink enough water.  Seed’s interactive LED touchscreen lid displays real-time water temperature when touched or opened, and displays daily water consumption when closed. The system will warn you before drinking if the water is dangerously hot or stale.  With your support, they will be able to complete our initial minimum order and bring SEED to the global market.

Crowdsourcing Mornings: Project For Awesome 2015

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing Mornings

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

The Project for Awesome started back in 2007 when John & Hank Green  and a bunch of online video creators decided it would be good, for one day of the year, to take over the online video community in the interest of good.  During Project for Awesome, thousands of people post videos about and advocating for charities that decrease the overall level of world suck. As a community, they promote these videos and raise money for the charities using this Indiegogo.  So how do you get involved?

First, YOU. Amazing community members from around the world make videos about a charity that is particularly meaningful for them. These are uploaded to the Project for Awesome website*, but also should be shared around the internet and viewed, discussed, commented upon, etc. You can vote on your favorite videos on the P4A site, which helps determine the charities that receive funding.

*Videos can be submitted from 12:00pm EST on December 11th through 11:59am EST on December 13th.

Second, fundraising. They will have an amazing selection of perks for you to choose from if you want to donate to the Foundation to Decrease World Suck through our Indiegogo campaign. From digital downloads to signed art, donated items from your favorite YouTube creators and their annual calendar… you’re bound to find something fun.

The Indiegogo will be open from 12:00am EST on Wednesday, December 9th to 11:59pm EST on Tuesday, December 15th.

We’ll be adding new perks throughout the campaign, so check back often!!!

Third, butfArt. Say what? Yes, this is where things get wacky. John & Hank, along with a number of special guests, host a 48-hour continuous livestream to feature videos, announce new perks, and look at dollar bills under microscopes… or something like that. You never know what will happen, so tune in and join the fun!

The livestream will run from 12:00pm EST on December 11th through 11:59am EST on December 13th.

All funds raised during the first half of P4A (12:00am EST on December 9th through 11:59am EST on December 12th) will benefit Save the Children and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

All funds raised during the second half of P4A (12:00pm EST on December 12th through 11:59pm EST on December 15th) will be divided between the organizations chosen by the community.

Crowdsourcing Weekends: PowerMe, The Pizza Book, Jurni Suitcase

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing

This is Crowdsourcing Weekends! This post highlights three different crowdsourcing projects I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

PowerMe

tsq6mlxsi3plkamn9cnm

PowerMe is an all-in-one cable. It has multiple functions that make it an essential gadget for everyone.  PowerMe can charge any microUSB or lightning device by taking power from most devices; it can also move files between devices, like photos, videos etc.  Plus, thanks to the USB adapter, when you’re home you can use PowerMe as a classic microUSB or lightning charging cable.  PowerMe can charge any microUSB or lightning device and can take energy from almost any microUSB smartphone or tablet.

Thanks to the OTG technology, PowerMe can take energy from most microUSB devices, including smartphones and tablets; if you are used to mid or high end devices, you don’t have to worry about compatibility issues.  Mobile devices are all around us, and every device is a potential power source.  You can take energy from your friend’s phone, or share yours if someone needs it!  Their lightning adapter is crafted to fit PowerMe specifically.  They designed it to guarantee a visual continuity between the connector and the adapter and to be tight when plugged into the connector, so you will not lose it on the road.  However, since PowerMe follows the industrial standards, any other microUSB to lightning adapter will be fine too.

The Pizza Book

3254d244070d29e7e3b9c2eed3fba182_original

Around 10 years ago, Mike received something special from an old friend – a pizza dough recipe. He worked on it for a while, and eventually passed it along to Aaron.  This pizza recipe was so awesome that Mike started to write a cookbook around it – how to make the dough, some ideas for pies that you could make, stuff like that. He shared it with Aaron, who was already completely obsessed with the recipe. Aaron took it and evolved it further, writing notes, and testing as he went.

Since then, three babies and a podcast were born, and the idea to revive “The Pizza Book” seemed like a really good one. They were getting together every week to work on their podcast and share their ideas and visions, and this gave them an excuse to finally make the book a reality.  A cookbook about pizza is a chance to show off some of their favorite flavor combinations, cultural inspirations, personal quirks, and more. This cookbook lets them share so much more than just the recipe for the dough itself – it’s a chance to really have fun with it.

Check Out The Five Great Games Featured By Hasbro’s Gaming Lab

Picture1wtwg

Right now, Hasbro Gaming Lab is holding an Indiegogo contest where one lucky creator will win $10,000 and a trip to Hasbro HQ for mentoring and assistance.  As a part of the Hasbro’s Next Great Game Challenge, a team of judges have chosen five games from more than 500 games to move to the Indiegogo phase, where each game is currently running it’s own Indiegogo page.  You have the chance to help these games go from concept to reality by supporting their Indiegogo campaigns now through December 1.  So what are the games?

Irresponsbility

wxvluhjtetqmrjxeis9m

Irresponsibility is a family-friendly card game for 2-4 players. The goal is rack up 15 points of happiness by playing cards to make Mr Toast have fun. Players can add activities or buddies to increase their own score, or play Responsibility cards against opponents to make him sadder. Action cards also allow players draw more cards, play extra cards, or even take over another player’s position.

HEXES!!

ay0jzoynqovyla3fyezx

Hexes is another card game that starts off simple, but gets progressively harder. The goal of the game is to hex other players with rules they must follow. If they break a rule, they’re out of the game. Last player standing wins. In each round, a player draws a hex card, places it faced down on the table, and assigns it to a player. That victim can use a defense card to deflect the hex to someone else. Then that person has the chance to defend. When a player can no longer defend, or accepts the hex, they must follow the rule on the card until the end of the game. The hexes are all very silly. For example, the “Affluenza” card requires the hexed player to address all other players as “Chad” or “Tiffany.”

Touchy Feely

o701wmrn5tbovdfphnfx

Touchy Feely is the first party game you play in the dark. According to the game creators, the darker, the better. Each player draws five task cards per round, and selects three to keep. Then, the lights are turned out and the players must attempt to complete as many tasks as possible in the dark. Only the “light keeper” knows how long each round will last, and players must somehow prove they have completed their task. The more difficult the task, the more points the player receives for completion. After each round with a player being the light keeper, the game is over. Whoever has the most points wins.

SUNK! the Game!

zql5ytksprol1yzpq3yu

The concept behind SUNK! is quite simple. Pour water into a floating cup and try not to sink it. Easy enough. Now try pouring a single drop while hopping up and down on one leg, or three drops with your weaker hand. Not so easy anymore, now is it? Each player rolls a die to determine if they must play a challenge card or pass the turn to another. The challenge cards determine how much water to pour while doing what activity. When the cup sinks, whichever player poured last is out.

Warning! Signs

mohtqecjyvq1joshzxtc

Warning Signs is a game of misinterpretation, almost a cross between Balderdash and Cards Against Humanity. The dealer chooses two cards. The first is a location, such as an aquarium. The second card is a wordless symbol that might appear on a sign. The other players then write down their interpretation of what the sign could mean at that location. The dealer determines the round winner by which “misinterpretation” is the funniest.
