Over the last few days, pizza has been the star! Pizza is that food most everyone enjoys. It’s one of the best foods to come out of Italy, and Americans eat a lot of pizza everyday. According to the USDA, 13% of Americans are eating a slice of pizza on any given day. On an average day, pizza provides 6 percent of the total caloric intake for American children and 4 percent for American adults. Americans spend $37 billion dollars a year on pizza. One in six guys between the ages of two and 39 ate pizza for breakfast, lunch, or dinner today. And because pizza is so popular today, per capita consumption of cheese is up 41 percent since 1995. So yes, Americans love pizza!
First off, everyone remembers that delivery guy who delivered pizzas to The Oscars. That moment with Ellen DeGeneres was real! And the delivery guy was not an actor, Edgar Martirosyan was the co-owner of the local Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria closest to the Dolby Theatre. Ellen had Edgar walk out onto the Oscars stage on live TV, and the rest is history!

Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria is now known worldwide, sales have gone through the roof, and the Southern California pizza chain has gotten around $10 million of free publicity, all without spending a single cent on advertising. In these videos below, Edgar was on The Ellen Show on Monday where he got a $1000 tip. And Edgar was on Piers Morgan Live Monday night, next time I am in Southern California, I will get pizza from Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria, no doubt about that!
Next, Pizza Hut has come out with the next generation of ordering pizza when you eat at one of their restaurants. Pizza Hut has developed a new digital interactive table top experience at select Pizza Hut locations. Designed by the software engineers from Chaotic Moon Studios, pizza patrons are able to customize their pizzas and order their pizza, plus any sides, right from their table, without talking to a server. The tabletop even comes with a countdown clock and games you can play! Customers can also pay for their orders with their phones. See, technology is putting more people out of work.
And someone has come up with the reason why you should always order a large pizza, since you get the most bang for your buck. According to research from NPR’s Quoctrung Bui, a 12″ large pizza is over twice as big as a 8″ small pizza. There are some fancy graphs you can check out when you click here.
