Welcome to the Trainscapes segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Trainscapes will feature train content including videos of trains and behind the scenes action of trains and locomotives. Some people have an interest in seeing trains, and we here at Geek Alabama aim to please the train lovers!

In early 2026, Union Pacific announced that Big Boy No. 4014 would embark on a two-part excursion service, named the Coast-to-Coast Tour. As previously mentioned, the tour would be divided into two parts: The Western Leg, and The Eastern Leg. The Western Leg’s route was nearly identical to the Big Boy’s Westward Bound Tour of 2024.

On March 29, 2026, the Western Leg of the Coast-to-Coast Tour began after Big Boy No. 4014 departed from Union Pacific’s Steam Shop in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Over the course of 27 days, U.P. 4014 traveled over 2,000 miles across four U.S. states: Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California, passing through the cities of Rock Springs, Salt Lake City, Winnemucca, and Roseville.

This video features Big Boy as it travels through Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. Enjoy!
