Well, exactly a week on from the US election and it’s a definitive result. America has spoken, and the world needs to buckle in for four more years of Trumpomania. History will now get to judge him, and the electoral decision, by his actions and achievements not words. We pulled this song together in an attempt to acknowledge lots of the things that people have told us they see in him. And in some ways, as a bookmark if our earlier songs were wrong.
If ordinary people benefit and the rich don’t get richer, Ukraine doesn’t get abandoned, racist and divisive forces within the US don’t get empowered, women’s freedoms don’t get curtailed, justice and the constitution don’t get twisted. If we and millions others had ‘TDS’ (‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’) because we consume too much of a certain kind of news, then we should be big enough to admit it. And we do honestly hope we’re wrong, like we were wrong about hope. Time will tell.
