It’s like a soft, warm, calm dog, except for the scary orange teeth; webbed back feet, and the nasty, nasty rat tail. Neuty is Denny and Myra Lacoste’s beloved, 22-pound pet nutria, that they rescued and raised after it was injured by traffic near the West Esplanade canal.  See this video from The Times-Picayune.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries was going to take the nutria rat away from this family, but good news.  The agency has allowed the family to keep the nutria rat with a permit.  See more details from WWL-TV.
