Sunday Discussion: Alabama’s Racist Gerrymandered Map Stands

Welcome to the Sunday Discussion segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Sunday Discussion will feature a serious topic that needs to be featured and talked about. You can “discuss” it on your own social media networks as comments are banned here on Geek Alabama.

To date, 38 states have approved the contours of their new congressional districts. Yet over 45 lawsuits have been filed accusing the maps of being gerrymandered or racially discriminatory. In January, a special court in Alabama ordered its state legislators to redraw their new map, claiming it diluted the power of Black voters. But this week, the Supreme Court voted to halt the special court’s ruling. In this segment from Lost Debate, Ravi, Rikki, and Cory break down the redistricting process and look at some of the more egregious examples of gerrymandering across the country.
