This week, I wanted to talk about two great stories! First off, a former president shaved his head to support a cancer patient. Former president George H.W. Bush clean shaved his head to support a youngster battling cancer. Patrick (2 years old) is the son of Jon, who is a member of the Bush Protective Division, or Secret Service detail. And Patrick is battling leukemia and losing his hair during treatment. Most of the BPD have shaved their heads and Bush decided to join in.
A fundraising effort called Patrick’s Pals was started to help Patrick’s family pay for his medical bills and the Bush’s made a donation to the effort. Patrick’s Pals will have the Inaugural Patrick’s Pals Motorcycle Benefit Run on August 10 through the Maine countryside, with all proceeds going to Patrick’s treatment. The effort of Patrick’s Pals is close to the heart of the President and Mrs. Bush. They lost their second child, Robin, to leukemia 60 years ago. Robin Bush was 4 years old and died in 1953. I also wanted to include this in the post. A police dog for the Hollywood Police Department up in Jackson County Alabama is in the running for a special contest. The photo contest is being held by Law Officer, a national publication for law enforcement agencies. Abi is running along with 70 other police dogs to win the contest.
