Welcome to the Music Thursdays segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Music Thursdays will feature music related content. Music Thursdays will feature an artist or band and their latest song and / or music video. People love music, and we here at Geek Alabama love featuring artists and bands!

Turtle Boy Duluth is an independent artist from Duluth, Minnesota, creating melodic hip-hop that blends personal storytelling, reflection, and unconventional concepts.

Writing, producing, and directing his own work, he uses music and visual storytelling to explore real-life experiences while bringing a distinctive voice and perspective from his hometown of Duluth.

Rather than separating the artist from his surroundings, Turtle Boy makes Duluth part of the work itself. His videos use the city, Minnesota’s stories, and his own experiences as material for a growing body of music and visual projects.

Turtle Boy Duluth is building independently – from recording music and developing concepts to creating videos and grassroots promotion – with the larger goal of using entertainment to create conversation, community, and cultural impact.

His work moves between melodic and emotionally driven music, visual storytelling, humor and social commentary.

The goal is not simply to release songs, but to build a recognizable artistic world with a point of view.

“I am particularly interested in creating work that can entertain people while also bringing attention to subjects that are easy for society to overlook. My music can be personal, humorous, reflective, or socially conscious, but I want the work to have a reason for existing beyond simply creating content. Duluth is an important part of my artistic identity, and my goal is to continue developing original Minnesota work that documents the community around me, explores meaningful social issues, and contributes a distinctive voice to the cultural identity of northern Minnesota.”– Turtle Boy Duluth

The concept for the “Morning Dew” video was inspired by my best friend, Ben, who experienced homelessness. “Ben had a bachelor’s degree in physics and was an incredibly smart and talented person. When I first met him, he was learning how to juggle, and when I saw him again six months later, he had practiced so much that he could really juggle. Seeing his intelligence, talent, and determination inspired me to create a video showing that homelessness does not define a person’s potential, and that people should continue developing their talents and pursuing their dreams regardless of where they are in life.” – Turtle Boy Duluth

“Morning Dew” is a love song, with “tip-toeing in the morning dew” representing the simple, intimate feeling of being in love and sharing life with someone.

The video carries a far deeper message: “There are many talented people experiencing homelessness, and no matter where someone is in life, they should never stop pursuing their dreams or believing in what they can become.” – Turtle Boy Duluth
