Welcome to The Weather Scene segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, The Weather Scene will feature weather related content. Editor / publisher Nathan Young loves weather related content. And this segment will feature something about the weather every week.
On an spring evening in northern Illinois, a violent EF4 tornado tore through the unincorporated community of Fairdale. In under an hour, a long-track wedge destroyed dozens of homes, killed two people, and left a landscape unrecognizable from the quiet town that had stood there minutes before.
This documentary breaks down the meteorology behind the storm — supercell structure, the clear slot, rear-flank downdraft, and the inner core vs. outer wind field of a wedge tornado — while following the path toward impact and the aftermath that followed.
Featuring the story of Clem Schultz, who filmed the approaching tornado from his second-floor window in Fairdale, and the broader human toll of April 9, 2015.
