Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Superman Doesn’t Steal (Atlanta Super Kids) is inspired by a true story and is the feature version of the NAACP Image award winning short “Superman Doesn’t Steal” which is Oscar qualified and has screened all over the world in over 80 festivals winning over 40 awards. The feature has been developed in a slew of high profile labs/fellowships including: Rideback RISE Fellowship Circle, Plenty of Pie Fellowship, Writers Lab International where I was mentored by Meg LeFauve (Writer/Inside Out, Inside Out 2) and Athena Labs where the script is a Finalist in contention for the Chinonye Chukwu Writers Award. We were also invited into the 2nd Round of the Sundance Screenwriters Lab and IFP Gotham’s shorts-to-features program.

Set during the Atlanta Child Murders of the late 1970s/early 1980s, 10-year-old Harriet and her superhero-obsessed friends are devastated when their friend Monica disappears, presumably taken by the serial killer terrorizing Atlanta’s Black community. When Harriet suspects that a trusted community member, may be responsible for her friend’s murder, rather than the Atlanta Child Killer, the adults dismiss her theory, forcing her to team up with her brother Jackson and friends as the “Atlanta Super Kids” to investigate on their own. Their amateur detective work puts them in mortal danger and Harriet becomes a target, leading to a climactic confrontation where she must find her inner hero to save herself and expose the truth about Monica’s killer.

“Superman Doesn’t Steal: Atalnta Super Kids” will be Director Tamika Lamison’s first feature film. Tamika is an award winning writer, director and producer who has worked in both Film & TV. She is known for moving and impactful personal stories and has written, directed and/or produced multiple award winning films. Tamika thrives when working at the intersection of service and film. Most notably as the founder of her non-profit “Make A Film Foundation” and as the Exec. Director of the “CDDP-Commercial Directors Diversity Program”, a DGA & AICP Inclusion program. In addition to winning an NAACP Image Award for the proof-of-concept short “Superman Doesn’t Steal”, Tamika recently won an Emmy for producing “Bang, Bang”, a PSA about gun violence. To create and share the feature “Superman Doesn’t Steal” – with the world- will be a dream come true.

As of April 10th, this project has raised $15,300 of their $20,000 goal. This project has 3 days left to raise the $20,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $25, you will get a social media thank you.  For a pledge of $50, you will get a vintage comic book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1488138359/superman-doesnt-steal-feature-atlanta-super-kids?
