Equipped with a wobbly compass and a positive attitude, a young fox named Zale ventures into the forbidden city ruins to find his long-lost mom. Little does he know that he’s about to uncover a tale that others would rather leave forgotten…
Tales of Zale is an animated indie series with a bit of history behind it! Most people first became familiar with our titular fox back in 2015, when the project released its first online episode. Back then, it was a passion project made by a single person.
Since then, the creator, Sif, has gained years of industry experience, working on projects for Disney, Cartoon Saloon, and many smaller European productions. She began pitching Tales of Zale as a TV series at various forums in 2019, and soon gained the support of the Oscar-nominated Danish studio Nørlum. With their help, the project could be taken to a whole new level of development, while still staying agile and true to its indie roots.
While Tales of Zale remains an indie project with a personal artistic vision, it simultaneously has the industry support to be taken further, should the right conditions arise. First and foremost, we want to keep the project close to the online audience that has followed and encouraged the project over all these years – and for that reason, we’re launching this pilot Kickstarter. Wether you’re an long-time viewer, or just found out about the project, we’re looking forward to showing the fruits of our labour!
Tales of Zale takes place in a world long left behind by humans, where overgrown buildings dot the land. To the animals, this is a fantasy world where our former everyday objects are now mysterious artifacts from an ancient past. Here, nature has taken over once more.
This setting is meant to reflect Zale’s feeling of having been left behind, while never feeling truly hopeless. New life is growing in place of what once was—ever changing and never still. At times, it may also serve as a mirror to our own world and our relationship with nature, though Zale’s story will always remain the focus.
