Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:  https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines

Two years ago, Will Ramos of Lorna Shore and The Charismatic Voice joined forces “FOR SCIENCE!” and put a camera down Will’s throat to see his anatomy while he was making his crazy cool phonations. What we uncovered is that the vocalizations he makes have very little to do with his true fold activation, and everything to do with his upper laryngeal structures.

This observation has completely shattered voice science. Will, our Unicorn, did another round of tests this year to collect even more data, including how his muscles activate, how his tongue shifts and modulates and how each of his individual upper laryngeal and mouth structures work together in harmony to create his sound.

These upper laryngeal structures have hardly been studied – this is the wild frontier of voice science. While this research applies to ALL types of vocalization (every genre of singing and speaking too), it’s not just about learning how to vocalize better.

This project will impact millions of lives. It will pave the way for studies in music therapy to expand. Music-based therapies already have been shown to improve illnesses like heart disease, thyroid conditions, and dementia. Thus far, singing-centered therapies have primarily focused on true vocal fold engagement.

Could metal singers be the key to curing cancer?

This all comes just from studying 1 person. Imagine what date from 6, 9, or even 12 more professional singer-screamers could bring.

We have eight artists signed on with opportunities to bring in more artists depending on the funding goals.  For our first six artists, we have…
– Tatiana Shmayluk of Jinjer
– Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation
– Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy
– Phil Bozeman of Whitechapel
– Spencer Sotelo of Periphery
– Melissa Bonny of Ad Infinitum

They are as excited as we are to dive deep into how they make their unique sounds. But none of this will be possible without YOUR support.

As of September 4th, this project has raised $141,000 of their $235,000 goal. This project has 29 days left to raise the $235,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $2, you will get access to research documents.  For a pledge of $15, you will get two analysis videos.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tcvresearch/harsh-vocal-research-with-the-charismatic-voice?
