Crowdsourcing Mornings: Ocean Filibuster

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

We are finishing a show about the Ocean. And our intimate relationship to it.  And how the ocean creates 50% of our breath.  And how human systems are messing with this process, and endangering poor people way more than the rich. And yes, it’s about the climate crisis, and how we feel powerless within it…

…and also the show has songs, and jokes, and wondrous large scale video, and the singular Jenn Kidwell playing two roles, and interactive mini-labs that give you a quintessential PearlDamour experience of hospitality and roads to ACTION.

The show is called Ocean Filibuster. It’s a genre-crashing music theater experience about the climate, environmental justice, and hope.

It is 40 years in the future. Inside the Senate chamber of a global governing body, Mr. Majority introduces an “End of Ocean Bill” designed to shrink Earth’s oceans into a more manageable (and marketable) collection of inland seas. When the floor is opened for debate, the Ocean arrives to speak in its own defense… and so begins an epic Human-Ocean showdown. Jenn Kidwell, playing both roles, is joined by a choir singing an urgent question: Can humans realize that we are Ocean, before it’s too late?

As of January 19th, this project has raised $13,600 of their $12,000 goal. This project has 5 days left to raise as much as it can.  For a pledge of $25, you will be given a special private phone number that connects you directly to the Ocean’s Answering Service.  For a pledge of $50, you will get one Ocean Filibuster pin.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
