Crowdsourcing Mornings: Snailish

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

SNAILISH – the story of a slug who wanted to be a snail!

Hi! I’m Nick Jones, an award-winning children’s author in Congleton, UK. My debut picture book, Sarah’s Shadow, won Best Picture Book in the international Readers’ Favorite book awards.

My latest book, Snailish, has been illustrated by the wonderful Leo Brown, and I am now raising funds to bring the book into the world!

I am proud of Snailish for two reasons:

  • Firstly, it’s a sweet story about a slug who wants to be a snail. It has an important message for kids about being happy as they are and not feeling jealous of others.
  • Secondly, the book’s pretty unique because the main character, Squidge, is both male and female. This is because slugs are hermaphrodites, and I didn’t want to lie to kids and make Squidge either a boy or a girl. Squidge is just Squidge!

Squidge the slug is jealous of snails with their shiny, cosy shells. When they find a beautiful empty shell one day, the excited slug thinks they finally have a home to call their own. But little do they know that things are about to get sticky!

As of January 13th, this project has raised $1,460 of their $1,460 goal. This project has 17 days left to raise as much as it can. For a pledge of $10, you will get one signed book.  For a pledge of $31, you will get five different books.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nickjonesauthor/snailish?
