Crowdsourcing Mornings: Close & Away: A Children’s Book About Grief

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:

Close & Away is a children’s book narrated by 7 year old Nevaeh about her family and how they commemorate the birthday of her older brother JJ, who passed away in infancy. The goal of Close & Away is to center the traditions of remembrance that help us understand and heal from loss. Nevaeh’s questions and observations as her family prepares to celebrate another 19th of July helps to remind us that everyone grieves and that no healing journey looks the same.

Close & Away is a self-published book. There are many moving parts to self-published work and this book is no different. Though this project has been fully self-funded by the author thus far, additional funds raised from this Kickstarter will go directly toward printing, fulfillment and shipping the book to get it to bookstores, schools and libraries.

As of March 10th, this project has raised $2,400 of their $2,750 goal. This project has 23 days left to raise the $2,750 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $5, you will get a thank you note.  For a pledge of $20, you will get one signed book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
