The Fried Green Tomato, Cooking Channel’s Most Iconic Food From Alabama

Picture1sdvwev

Cooking Channel put out a map of the most iconic foods in each state.  The network made this map by votes from Cooking Channel viewers and readers.  So, Alabama’s best iconic dish is the fried green tomato!  The website cites the Whistlestop Cafe in Irondale as the restaurant made the best use of abundant unripe green tomatoes.  I think the fried green tomato (recipe here), is a better representation of a Alabama food than the Lane Cake.  And for the neighboring states, Mississippi is the Mississippi Mud Pie, Georgia is the Lattice-Top Peach Pie, Tennessee is the Memphis Dry-Rub Ribs, and Florida is the Key Lime Pie!

I think Nevada has the best food item, the Las Vegas All You Can Eat Buffet!  Below is the entire map.  To view the full version, complete with recipes, go to:  http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/recipes/50-state-foods.html
