The Mythbusters Star Wars Special Airs This Saturday

Mythbusters is about to premiere the 11th season this Saturday night, and here are some interesting statistics.  Over the past 11 years, the team has tested 925 myths, filmed over 7600 hours, created 840 explosions and used 53,100 yards of duct tape.  That is a lot of work!  This Saturday at 8 pm Eastern/Pacific, 7 pm Central, Hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, along with Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara, and special guest star Sophia Bush from NBC’s Chicago PD, will test several popular myths from the Star Wars movies!

Could Luke really have swung across a huge chasm on the end of a rope while holding Princess Leia and trying to escape Stormtroopers?  Could Hans’ ingenuity of stuffing Luke inside a Tauntaun have saved him from the bitterly cold and deadly elements of Hoth?  And could the primitive weapons of the Ewoks realistically take down some of Darth Vader’s most sophisticated weapons?  These are the myths that will be put to the test in the Star Wars special!

As you know, a new Star Wars film is coming out in December 2015.  And a new animated series called Star Wars: Detours will premiere on Disney Channel, then on Disney XD hopefully in 2014!  The Mythbusters Star Wars special will be the first big Star Wars TV special to build up some hype into the Star Wars franchise!  But the Star Wars special is not the only big thing happening on Mythbusters this season.

Some myths that will be tested includes Moonshine myths from the Discovery show Moonshiners.  First, Adam and Jamie take on the myth of the Exploding Still. Supposedly a leaking still caused a house to blow up when a match ignited the fumes.  But could this really be possible?  The next Moonshiner story goes that not only can you run a car on moonshine but supposedly you can make it go faster than a car on gasoline. To put this to the ultimate test, Kari, Tory and Grant make their own moonshine and then take a bunch of cars for a spin.

Also, there will be an episode dedicated to traffic myths.  The team will test myths to cut journey times, avoid traffic jams and get home the fastest way.   What really causes the dreaded shockwave traffic jams?  Can it be something as simple as a slight tap on the brakes?  And which traffic tactic gets you to your destination the fastest: patiently staying in one lane in heavy traffic, or doing some fancy lane changing all the way home?  Since I am a road geek, I will enjoy this episode!

New episodes of Mythbusters will air on Discovery Channel on Saturday nights at 8 pm Eastern/Pacific, 7 pm Central.  I don’t get why Discovery choose to air Mythbusters on Saturday nights since it’s a night many people are not home, but I guess it’s why the DVR was invented.  So if you are not going to be home, why not DVR Mythbusters, you will not regret it!
