Music Thursdays: The Doubleclicks

Geek Alabama Music Thursdays

This Music Thursdays is going to profile a music duo who does some snarky, geeky, and sweet music.  I am talking about The Doubleclicks!  This music group was behind this viral video called “Nothing to Prove.”  The message of the video is to show all geeky/nerdy people to not hide behind what you love and to stand up to those who bully you.  Geeks and nerds are all on the same side!

The Doubleclicks are a pair of sisters — Angela and Aubrey Webber — who sing about Dungeons & Dragons, dinosaurs, and Mr. Darcy.  They play cello and ukulele.  They have been called snarky, geeky, and sweet.  Their latest album, Lasers & Feelings, includes songs about Mars Curiosity, meeting people on the Twitter, and Geek Girl pride.  The Doubleclicks tour the country regularly, playing at game stores, comic shops, and conventions, and have shared bills with nerd and comedy superstars including Jonathan Coulton, Paul and Storm, and Wil Wheaton.

Since starting their band in 2011 with a weekly new-song YouTube project and the animated music video for their Dungeons & Dragons love song, The Doubleclicks have toured their clever brand of folk music around the country, usually in comic shops, game stores or in their fans’ living rooms.  The duo has also performed at w00tstock shows with Paul & Storm and Wil Wheaton, and entertained audiences at pop culture, gaming and sci-fi conventions.  The duo’s first full-length album “Chainmail and Cello” (2012) intones the life and loves of the geek girl – with songs about love, Velociraptors, and Pride & Prejudice.

In 2012 the band also released a CD of their music for kids called “Worst Superpower Ever.”  The Doubleclicks also persevered through the year-long Song Fu 2012 monthly songwriting challenge as a featured artist, wrote the official theme song for party game Cards Against Humanity, and released a 5-song Christmas EP and performed on the Jonathan Coulton Cruise.  Their 2013 album “Lasers and Feelings” debuted on the Billboard charts at #7! The music video for the song “Nothing To Prove” off that album has over 1 million YouTube views.  The band just launched “Weekly Song Wednesday,” a project to post new songs on YouTube every week from September 25 til the end of 2013.  Here is their latest Weekly Song Wednesday called “Bad Memories.”

This music duo loves to base their music on popular geek and nerd themes.  And that is something I love, since this is Geek Alabama!  The duo mostly does their music tours in the Northwest US where they are based.  But they do go to other parts of the country and play some great music.  Here is another song based from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show called “Agent Coulson.”

Here’s hoping The Doubleclicks will come to Alabama and perform soon!  To learn more about The Doubleclicks, go to: http://www.thedoubleclicks.com/  Follow them on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/thedoubleclicks and on Twitter @TheDoubleclicks.
