Welcome to Disability Awesome. Each week, this post will feature a person or persons with mental and / or physical disabilities who are doing awesome things! As someone with an disability, I love it when others when disabilities do great things!
Mister Rogers builds a garage with wooden blocks and talks about how we can use our own ideas to make new things. He shares a memory of visiting an electric car garage to see how they are built and drives one. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Prince Tuesday has run away and is hiding at Daniel Striped Tiger’s clock as his neighbors look for him. He feels bad that his parents have been fighting, and he’s worried it will be his fault if they get a divorce. Back at the house, Mister Rogers gets a visit from his 10 year-old friend, Jeff Erlanger, who shows how his power wheelchair works and talks about his disability and why he needs a wheelchair. Mister Rogers and Jeff sing “It’s You I Like” together and share what they do when they feel blue. Mister Rogers talks about how parents and children grow and learn together, and how a lot of learning has to do with love.
