Drone footage captures the widespread destruction left behind by a historic ice storm in Oxford, Mississippi. Accumulating ice brought down trees, power lines, and utility infrastructure, leaving neighborhoods impassable and causing extensive power outages across the area. The weight of the ice snapped large limbs, crushed vehicles, and blocked roads, creating dangerous conditions for residents and first responders.
This storm stands out as one of the most severe ice events ever to impact the Deep South, overwhelming infrastructure not designed for prolonged freezing conditions. Emergency crews and volunteers continue damage assessments and recovery efforts as temperatures remain cold and hazardous travel conditions persist.
