Elliott Stride is a guard for a rare and dangerous prize: a dragon egg. A treasure that was stolen and placed on display by Elliott’s employer, the eccentric and mysterious Cyneric Haytere.
Having grown up in a world that fears magic and the dangerous creatures from beyond the border of gwythroot flowers, Elliott first sees the young dragon as a monster, rather than a child.
However, when she begins to speak inside his mind, begging for love, care, and attention, Elliott lets his guard down. Elliott was once the eldest child of nine children, a perfect son who took care of all his brothers and sisters. When he lost his entire family, he became cold and numb, but this dragon child is bringing back warm memories he thought he’d lost forever.
A bond quickly forms between the two, one that is seemingly unbreakable. And when Elliott discovers that Cyneric Haytere plans to use the child for destruction, Elliott decides to escape with her.
But that child isn’t Elliott’s to raise. Her father is still out there, searching desperately for his stolen daughter.
