Hi! My name is Carissa, and I’m thrilled to introduce you to Milo’s Magic Mop: Adventures in Big Feelings — a heartfelt, beautifully illustrated children’s book series that helps young kids navigate big emotions through play, imagination, and a whole lot of heart.
This project is more than just a book — it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream I shared with my late mother: to create meaningful stories for children that foster emotional growth, resilience, and kindness.
As a former elementary school counselor and now a mom of two incredible young boys, I know firsthand how important it is to teach kids how to name, understand, and manage their feelings. Milo, the star of our series, is a joyful, curly-haired boy who loves hockey, golf, and solving little kid problems with a big imagination — and a little help from the magical items he hides in his hair.
The stories are loosely inspired by the moments I’ve shared with my own children — their triumphs, tears, giggles, and all the messy in-between. My hope is that Milo becomes a trusted friend for families everywhere, helping kids recognize that their feelings are real, important, and never too big to handle.
Research shows that children with strong social-emotional skills are more confident, empathetic, and better equipped to manage stress and build relationships. Each book in the series focuses on a core SEL (social-emotional learning) theme — such as managing frustration, developing focus, or practicing kindness — all in a fun, age-appropriate way.
Every story ends with a “Milo’s Moment” reflection page to help parents, caregivers, and educators spark meaningful conversations with children.
Publishing a high-quality book is a big dream with an even bigger heart behind it. This series is not only my way of honoring the promise I made to my mom — it’s my way of showing my own children that their feelings matter and that their stories are worth telling.
