Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment! Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others. The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal. Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Oliver the Crow – Our Second Album: 5 Years in the Making.
Hey friends,
We’re Kaitlyn and Ben, the duo behind Oliver the Crow. After a mere five-year detour (complete with pandemic and all!), we’re finally ready to share some new music with you. That’s right, we’ve got a brand new album in the works, and we need your help to bring it across the finish line.
We’re not going to lie – a lot happened over the past five years. We got married (yay!), bought a house (adulting!), acquired a dog with the energy level of an espresso shot, grappled with the meaning of existence, and experienced some very real moments of loss. So yeah, plenty of “inspiration” for songwriting. This new album is pretty much a reflection of all that: the highs, the lows, and everything in between. It’s personal, it’s heartfelt, and sometimes it’s just us trying to make sense of things.
This time around, we worked with our friend and musical genius Anthony Da Costa (he’s worked with folks like Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, The Wailing Jennys, and so many more, in addition to putting out his own beautiful music) at his studio here in Nashville. This album is full of Anthony’s brilliance on every instrument and soundscape imaginable, but don’t worry – at its core, this is still an Oliver the Crow album. There will be no sudden jazz fusion experiments, we promise.
As you might know, making an album is no small feat. I think everyone knows how tough the landscape for independent artists can be, and there are so many costs associated with getting the record into your hands and ears. We need your help to get the final pieces in place.
Your contributions will go toward:
- Mixing and mastering (so it doesn’t sound like we recorded it in a garage with a potato)
- CD printing (because we hear some of you still like having CDs to hold and admire)
- Album art (we’ll make sure that we look cooler than we actually are)
- Music videos and photos (because the internet demands visual proof that we’re still alive and making music)
- Publicity and promotion (because it would be cool if people heard this thing we’re proud of)
Basically, we’re almost there, but we need that final push to make this record as awesome as possible – and that’s where you come in.

As of November 5th, this project has raised $8,000 of their $13,500 goal. This project has 3 days left to raise the $13,500 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $20, you will get one digital album. For a pledge of $30, you will get one signed CD.
