Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment! Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others. The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal. Please enjoy today’s featured project!

On February 28th, 2018, my daughter Layla was born. Six days later, my father passed away. This was a tumultuous time filled with so many emotional highs and lows. During this time, my notebooks became a refuge for me. At night when it was quiet, and I wasn’t able to sleep, I wrote. After countless times crying, I wrote. When I didn’t have the words or energy to figure out the words to say, I wrote. When all I could do was feel, I wrote. I processed the deepest parts of my heart through writing and that time of great joy and grief birthed this book.
Four years later, I started actively putting this collection of poems together. Originally, I was only planning on writing about becoming a dad and losing my dad. However, my children were four years old and 6 months old, and I was not the same person, father, or in the depths of grief as I was when I originally wrote the first two sections of the book. Therefore, I wanted to create a section on actually being a father. The poems in this section helped me be emotionally present with my children.
This is a collection of poetry and prose about my experience of becoming a father and losing my father at the same time, as well as my journey of now being a father. My hand has been in every part of the creation of the project; writing, formatting, and designing it. I present this for myself, to put my work into the world and share my story. Additionally, I present this to others, so that they may not feel alone in their grief and their growth. I pray this collection of poems finds you right when it needs to.
What I plan to use the money for:
1) Ordering books
2) Multimedia projects related to the book (video and audio production)
3) Launching my website
4) Supporting my future projects and events
