Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

A girl named Julia moved into a new Castle far away…

This is a Magical and Whimsical Story about Cats! Featuring charming Princes and Princesses, Capes and broken Crowns, Sword Duels, Dragons (Um, more like “Snakes”), Knights on White Horses (Looking at you, UPS Guy!), Kind and Generous Villagers, and curing Potions made by Wizards (Veterinarians are awesome!)

Does it sound like a Fairy Tale? Well, it’s not! It is more like a… Furry Tail.

When Julia Davis moved to a new house, she discovered it came with a cat.

Despite being surprised to find an abandoned pet in her backyard’s Chicken Coop, the former “skeptic of the cat distribution system” ended up with four cats, one dog… and a community of 800K+ enthusiastic, animal-loving, and generous supporters.

Julia’s TikTok account became popular when she shared her unusual story with the world and started documenting the charming behavior and urgent needs of  Coop, Roof, CJ, and Sadie, who, along with her already loving pets Finn and Remi, became part of her family and changed their lives forever.

At first, Julia sought help from her online community to cover the unavoidable medical expenses of her new four-legged companions, but when she received more than she needed, she passed those community-raised funds along to other struggling patients in the veterinary clinic.

Moved by the kindness of her supporters and constantly amazed by their generosity, Julia has continued showing her gratitude and giving back to her community by leading animal welfare campaigns and raising awareness of pet health needs and illness prevention.

To this day, the Coop Kitty Community, led by Julia, has raised thousands of dollars and sent out numerous food, medicine, supplies, and toy donations to multiple animal shelters and organizations in Alabama and other states.

The remarkable impact of Julia’s TikTok account on the community was recently recognized with the 2023 Cheer Choice Award for animal advocacy.

Not only must we continue learning and getting involved with social and environmental issues, but it is also essential to amplify community efforts to spread kindness and help others in need. It starts with us, the adults, and then the responsibility remains for us to stay active and pass the example to young generations.

You asked; we deliver!

Always ready to help but also up for brainstorming 24/7, the Coop Kitty Community supported the idea of creating a Children’s Picture Book to tell this unique story and turn these beloved real-life characters into illustrated ones!

And, because the universe continued making its thing… Julia teamed up with Susana Illera Martínez, a Miami-based author known for her Award-Winning Bilingual Book Series Lala the Lizard, and her work with Disney’s Publishing Group writing stories based on “Encanto,” a movie inspired in her native Colombia. And with Erica Leigh, a multi-talented Massachusetts-based songwriter and creative artist who has designed and illustrated over twelve children’s picture books for independent authors.

We are thrilled to present the First Book 📖 in The Adventures of Julia & The Coop Kitties + Remi Series:

Chickens Don’t Go Meow! ¡Las gallinas no hacen miau! A bilingual book (in English and Spanish) that tells the extraordinary story of Julia with her furry friends and the message that brought many people together to show the world that generosity, kindness, and compassion exist.

We truly believe that readers of all ages will find joy and inspiration to live a happy life, spread positivity, and make a positive impact through this and future magical adventures with Julia, Remi, Finn, Coop, Roof, CJ, and Sadie.

We cannot wait for you to see what we’ve created with effort, commitment, gratitude, and love!
