Crowdsourcing Mornings: The Long Way Home / Documentary

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

BACKGROUND

In 2019 we traveled to Burma.

The democratically elected government had been in place for about five years and you could feel the positive excitement of a country that had been torn by civil war under military rule for most of the last century.

Wherever we traveled we met equally curious, generous and heartwarming people finally equipped with some basic human rights and able to take their fates into their own hands.

Then, in 2021, the Military Coup happened.

And the fragile flowering democracy was brutally crushed by force.

When we saw the images of bombed villages, fleeing families and the courageous protesters in the streets of Yangon we knew we wanted to do something to help.

We are planning to make a documentary film and an accompanying photo series to give the displaced people of Burma a voice and to shine a light on their struggle for the democratic future of Burma.

WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE

The “News worthy” stories of bombings, fleeing refugees and fights on the streets of Yangon are only the backdrop to our story.

We want our protagonists to tell us in their own words, how the conflict impacts their life in a communal, cultural and societal sense.

What are the long term implications of torn apart villages and family structures?

What is their outlook on life, family, community?

What hopes do they put in a democratic future for themselves, their families and their country?

As of November 30th, this project has raised $5,400 of their $6,235 goal.  This project has 18 days left to raise the $6,235 or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $32, you will get digital film access.  For a pledge of $52, you will get film and photo access.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tundrafilms/the-long-way-home-documentary?
