Crowdsourcing Mornings: The Zookeepers’ Quest – The Koala And The Bushfire

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:  https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines

My name is Lainy, I am a zoologist and passionate conservationist. I have been a zookeeper for the past 15 years and as most zookeepers do I try and give my time, experience and knowledge to conservation projects all over the world to help the species most in need.

I wanted to write children’s books to reflect my passion, educate kids on the importance of wildlife conservation and preserving our natural environment. Along with my sister, Jess, who has illustrated the book, I have written The Zookeepers’ Quest – The Koala and the Bushfire.

It is important to both myself and Jess that the book supports a conservation charity related to the theme of the story. The Zookeepers’ Quest – The Koala and the Bushfire proudly supports The Adelaide Koala and Wildlife Centre, who rescue and rehabilitates wildlife that have been affected by bush fires and other threats and returns them back to the wild.

The story follows two zookeepers, Bonnie and Freddie (which are modeled on our beautiful niece and nephew), as they travel to Australia to work with a local conservationist and his dog, to save a koala and her joey from a bushfire.

The story highlights the plight of Australian wildlife affected by the ever growing risk of bushfires, which are increasing in frequency and intensity due to climate change.

The book portrays this message in a family friendly way and also has a parents page at the back with more information about the conservation issue. The book also shows kids how they can help at home and has a fun check list of activities to combat climate change, protect wildlife and encourage positive environmental action.

But Jess and I can’t complete our book and spread our environmental education messages without your help! Which is why we are launching this Kickstarter to enable you to support us and back our project.

As of December 13th, this project has raised $3,200 of their $3,874 goal. This project has 5 days left to raise the $3,874 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $11, you will get one book.  For a pledge of $18, you will get one book, and donate one book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/170139475/the-zookeepers-quest-the-koala-and-the-bushfire?
