Crowdsourcing Mornings: Landback.Art

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:  https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines

LANDBACK.Art is a billboard campaign across North America to broaden support for the LANDBACK Movement. We’ve invited over 20 Indigenous artists, community members, and their allies to illustrate their answer to “What does land back mean to you?” on billboards placed in communities currently fighting for Indigenous rights and the protection of Native land.

In tandem with our billboards debuting this November during Native American Heritage month, LANDBACK.Art will host conversations with featured billboard artists as they share their own narratives and wisdoms on the fight for LANDBACK and its significance to their communities. We hope that LANDBACK.Art will bring these narratives to the forefront and will inspire artists, activists, and allies to work toward dismantling and defunding systems of colonial violence, invest in Indigenous communities, and return land to Indigenous hands.

We want to call attention to LANDBACK in your communities, and we want you to support us. We’ll place billboards from Los Angeles to New York City, celebrating Indigenous voices and creating dialogue to broaden the LANDBACK Movement.

Indigenous people make up less than 5% of the global population but protect 80% of the earth’s biodiversity. That’s why Indigenous people must lead the way if we are to protect the world from further destruction. Indigenous people must lead a way forward, because we have always held the solutions to being in right relations with the land. No more will our perspectives be told from a colonial lens; Indigneous people are creating that space to tell our own story.

LANDBACK is the reclamation of everything stolen from the original Peoples: Land, Language, Ceremony, Medicines, and Kinship. LANDBACK.Art pushes against colonial narratives and creates space to reclaim our stories and highlight the reality of capitalism, imperialism, and resource extraction. We are on the cusp of a broad, global Indigenous-led movement—and therefore aim to connect the legacy of Indigenous struggles to our present and our future.

As of October 11th, this project has raised $14,000 of their $40,000 goal. This project has 25 days left to raise the $40,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $10, you will get project updates.  For a pledge of $25, you will get one small flag.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/landback/landbackart?
