Camera Accessories All Beginners Should Have

Entering the world of photography can be a little intimidating. With countless different camera gadgets and accessories to choose from, choosing which ones to buy can seem like an impossible task. Before you start panicking, we’re here to let you in on a little secret. You don’t need the fanciest, most expensive gear to take incredible photos. All you really need is a few essential items to get you started. Below, we have provided a list of the essential camera accessories all beginners should have.

Camera Accessories All Beginners Should Have

A Tripod

As a beginner photographer, one of the first camera accessories that you should purchase is a tripod. When using a tripod, the camera will stay completely still. Such stillness is often essential to preventing blurry photos—especially in low-light conditions when using a longer shutter speed setting is necessary.

A Quality Autofocus Lens

The lens that you use to take your photos with can make a huge difference in quality. If you’re new to photography, consider investing in a quality autofocus lens.

As you develop your skills, you’ll likely want to switch over to a manual lens as they provide more control. However, if you’re just starting out, an autofocus lens will help you capture quality photos with minimal work. When using an autofocus lens, the lens will focus on the subject of your photo for you, thus allowing you to take an effortlessly accurate and clear shot.

A Camera Bag

Another vital camera accessory all beginners should have is a camera bag. Cameras, lenses, and other photography gear typically doesn’t come cheap. To protect your investments, it’s important to purchase a quality camera bag with ample padding. Such a bag will help protect your gear while you transport it from one location to another and will help prolong its lifespan.

Storage Devices

When taking photos, you’ll need something to store them on. As such, storage devices are also an essential accessory for novice photographers. The two storage devices that you will require are memory cards and hard drives. When purchasing memory cards, opt for several different cards that have a medium storage capacity—such as 32GB cards—rather than just one large card. That way, if you lose a card or it gets corrupted, it won’t be the end of the world.

If you plan on taking a sizable quantity of photos, you likely won’t have enough room on your computer to store them all. In such a case, you’ll need to invest in an external hard drive to easily store all of your photos.
