Crowdsourcing Mornings: Slow Bloom Coffee Cooperative: Building A Coffee Roastery

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:

Slow Bloom Coffee Cooperative is a 100% worker owned coffee cooperative, born from the efforts of the fabled Augie’s Union. And we have been working like maniacs to get this off the ground.

In the summer of 2020, the coffee workers of Augie’s Coffee (that’s us) attempted to unionize. With reminders to one another that it is against the law for employers to fire workers for unionizing still ringing in our ears, we nonetheless found ourselves illegally fired within days of presenting our union petition. This turning point set us on a quest to champion workers’ rights, pursue justice with the National Labor Relations Board, and fight to gain our jobs back or stubbornly create new ones. From battling internet trolls to relentlessly popping up whenever and wherever society would have us, we have been working hard to make a living for ourselves. Along the way one thing has become clear: with each other and the help of our friends, we can bring actual change to our lives and our cities.

So here we are, the newborn magic baby “Slow Bloom Coffee Cooperative.” As a cooperative we are 100% worker owned, each one of us accountable to each other in a completely democratic spirit. We have no bosses, only ourselves. And we need your help!

Starting a business is expensive, much more expensive than the initial goal we have set, but we need to start somewhere. To be honest, we need about $80,000 for one year of operation and this campaign would be a place to begin. We need a coffee roaster and a building to roast in and everything that endeavor entails. So we are selling awesome things that everyone loves like t-shirts, bumper stickers, and coffee mugs. We are offering you some even cooler things like fame and glory through personalized short stories, sweet lacquered plaques with your unforgettable name, and a literal Roast of you and your friends.

As of December 11th, this project has raised $30,000 of their $20,000 goal. This project has 6 days left to raise as much as it can.  For a pledge of $1, you will get project updates.  For a pledge of $20, you will get one coffee mug.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
