Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes To Share Its ‘Sweet’ Success Story With Millions On QVC, HSN Wednesday

Post from Alabama NewsCenter

Millions of TV shoppers will be introduced this week to Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes and learn what makes this Homewood business’ original creations so unforgettably tasty.

Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes will be highlighted on QVC and HSN Wednesday, Aug. 19, as one of Qurate Retail Group’s Small Business Spotlights. The company’s success story will air on QVC at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., and on HSN at 12:55 p.m. and 9:55 p.m. QVC and HSN have been featuring Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes on their websites and social media pages since Aug. 12.

Qurate Retail Group is spotlighting companies like Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes through a collaboration with the NRF Foundation. The goal is to help small businesses navigate today’s challenging retail environment. This phase of the program is highlighting 20 Black-owned businesses as part of Qurate’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within its company and in society.

Qurate, a multiplatform retailer that includes QVC, HSN, Zulily and other brands, is using its production resources, television broadcasts and digital platforms to help Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes share its story with consumers nationwide.

Zulily is promoting the Small Business Spotlight campaign on its website and through email and social media. Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes can also call on Qurate Retail Group team members for advice on solving a business issue through a virtual mentoring initiative, said Mike George, president and CEO of Qurate Retail Inc.

“Our story at Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes is one of faith, family and work ethic,” said company founder April McClung. “Our heirloom pound cakes are amazing, but the anointing is in the story. It is our prayer that all would be inspired to believe and never quit, and we are excited to share this message through our participation in the Small Business Spotlight program.”

The business grew out of a fundraiser that in nine months brought in more than $14,000, using a 100-year-old recipe created by the founder’s grandmother-in-law, Emily Magnolia McClung. April and Lacy McClung launched the effort to raise money to send one of their sons to Europe and the other to China as student ambassadors during the summer of 2014. Six years later, the company bakes more than 5,000 packaged slices monthly and hundreds of cakes in a variety of sizes and flavors, and ships them across the country.

Qurate Retail Group has a long tradition of helping small business owners and entrepreneurs launch and grow their brands through storytelling and shopping discovery. QVC, HSN and Zulily provide platforms that enable small businesses to speak directly to millions of consumers in their homes.

Earlier this spring, Qurate and the NRF Foundation launched the Small Business Spotlight with 20 small businesses across America that have been affected by COVID-19. The current focus on Black-owned businesses is part of several initiatives announced by Qurate to promote diversity, equity and inclusion.

“We’re proud to stand with the Black community by sharing the stories of these extraordinary businesses, including their innovation, their triumphs, the challenges they face and their remarkable resilience,” George said. “In these important times, we want to be part of the solution and help build inclusive communities where all people are treated with equity.”

This phase of the Small Business Spotlight runs from Aug. 12 through Oct. 16.

“Retailers serve every community across the country and support one out of every four jobs,” said Matthew Shay, president and CEO of the National Retail Federation. “Diversity and inclusion have always been at the heart of our industry, but we know there is so much more work to be done. By amplifying Black voices and businesses through programs like the Small Business Spotlight, we are taking an important step to ensure our industry remains a catalyst for promoting equity and opportunity in America today.”
