Crowdsourcing Mornings: Presidents Of The USA VINYLIZE The Popular One

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:

We are the rock band The Presidents Of The United States Of America! Or rather, we were. We stopped performing in 2015, after 20-ish years of circling the globe kicking out the jams in tiny clubs and massive festivals and everything in between. Like Zamfir, the Master of the Pan Flute, we have “enchanted millions”. Maybe YOU were one of these people!**

Our debut album came out in 1995, first on a tiny Seattle label called Pop Llama, then some <action-packed> months later on COLUMBIA RECORDS. At some point early in the process, we did a sub-license <—-(music business term!) with a small Spanish label for vinyl, and they made a few copies. They continue to be battled over to this day.

995 was a time when vinyl seemed like a format whose days were numbered. Because OMG COMPACT DISCS! We stayed very busy circling the globe and kicking out the jams and selling gajillions of these “CDs.” Here are some of the concepts we may have lost track of during this turbulent time:

  • clean laundry
  • time zones
  • occasionally eating salad
  • releasing our album on vinyl

It wasn’t until years later when INTERNET let people talk to us that we found out we had made a huge mistake

So here we are, coming up on its 25th birthday….BOOM VINYL PUSA!

This is a celebratory FANCY-PANTS edition, white vinyl with green and bronze marbling. There’s even a poster inside that you can take right down to your local tattoo shop and say “please put this across my back!

We are post-rock-band. While we remain friends and enjoy frequent lunches together, we have no label, no management, no infrastructure, no “team”. That’s OK though! We don’t need any of that stuff!  Thanks to INTERNET and whatnot the music is out there for anyone who wants to hear it (that’s my vague understanding of INTERNET.)

And (this is important) we own most of our music, including this album! So involving a label again is kind of the opposite of what we want moving forward. Kickstarter gives us the chance to bring this directly to you, and (also important) figure out how many of you are interested in having one of these hot slabs of wax! Also: not for nothing, but our research shows that people in general like and trust Kickstarter the most out of all the crowdfunding sites!

As of February 18th, this project has raised $81,000 of their $25,000 goal. This project has 27 days left to raise as much as it can. For a pledge of $10, you will get one digital download.  For a pledge of $25, you will get one vinyl album.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
