Crowdsourcing Mornings: The Liegnitz Plot – A Holocaust Mystery

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:

THE LIEGNITZ PLOT is a unique Holocaust story. It’s part mystery, part history, and part heist. It’s a true story that is still unfolding. And it’s never been told before.   A team of award-winning filmmakers have come together to make this film. Between them they’ve won two Academy Awards, a Peabody, and three Emmys, plus a Grand Jury Award nomination at Sundance. They have financed much of it to date with limited personal funds and have come to Kickstarter to ensure they can tell this story independently and truthfully.

It’s about the search for a cache of very valuable stamps stolen from Jews during World War II and hidden by a Nazi officer somewhere in Poland. The filmmakers set out to solve the mystery and return the stolen stamps to families of their rightful owners, delivering a small measure of justice – over 70 years later.  Armed with a faded photocopy of a map of a German town called Liegnitz and knowing only the Nazi officer’s initials, “R.W.,” the filmmakers begin to uncover clues which lead them to identity the Nazi and eventually his children and grandchildren. The story they tell, not just about the Nazi stamp collector but also about his war criminal brother, sends them on an extraordinary adventure.

What began as a straightforward quest to recover stolen stamps becomes a much bigger story and a reminder for both the filmmakers and the audience – we must NEVER forget the important lessons of the Holocaust.

As of December 4th, this project has raised $45,000 of their $61,500 goal. This project has 31 days left to raise the $61,500 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $6, you will get project updates.  For a pledge of $18, you will get a digital link to the film.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
