The iPhone 5 is Here!

All of the tech world has focused today on Apple Headquarters as the announcement of the iPhone 5 was made today!  There were also new announcements today for the iPod and iTunes as well.  CEO Tim Cook from Robertsdale, AL (yes he is from Alabama) stood on the stage and introduced the world to the new Apple products in a same fashion as the late Steve Jobs did.  The brand new Apple iPhone 5 will be going on sale September 21st with pre-orders beginning September 14th.  This phone has a bunch of new features that are very cool!

The iPhone 5 is made out of glass and aluminum.  The back of the phone is now made out of an aluminum panel instead of glass.  According to Apple, it is “the world’s thinnest smartphone,” and is 18% lighter than the 4S.  The screen on the iPhone 5 is much bigger with an 4-inch, 16:9 Retina display with a 1136 x 640 resolution.  As you see in the picture above a fifth row of apps will be included in the phone.  One of the biggest changes will be the support of 4G LTE on Sprint, Verizon and AT&T networks in the US.  The phone will also have a single chip for voice and data transmissions.  Wi-Fi also gets an update too with the phone supporting the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz on 802.11n networks.  Can you possibly smell the lawsuit from Samsung coming?

Inside the phone will be the A6 chip which Apple claims is 2X faster than the A5 chip in the iPhone 4S and iPad.  Also the battery life will get a huge upgrade from the past iPhones.  Apple claims the iPhone 5 can deliver up to 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music and 225 hours on standby which is huge!  The new camera on the iPhone 5 could spell the end to the point and click cameras.

The iPhone 5 camera will feature an 8 MP, 3264 x 2448, backside illuminated shooter that’s 25% smaller. The camera also introduces a dynamic low light mode, precision lens alignment and a Sapphire crystal to keep things clear.  Also a new panorama mode has been introduced along with the ability to shoot 1080p video and snap photos while you’re recording.  Even the front-facing camera will now be in HD!

The speakers on the iPhone 5 will have new features such as wideband audio.  But what is brand new is the EarPods Apple has been working on for three years.  These in-ear headphones even have a built-in microphone for making calls!  You will get these new earphones when you get the iPhone 5.  Or you can buy them for $29.  The phone will also have an all-digital, adaptive interface called Lightning which has improved durability and it’s 80% smaller than its predecessor.

The iPhone 5 will be available in black and white and pricing stays the same at $199, $299 or $399 for 16, 32 and 64GB respectively.  Also the new iOS 6 operating system will be installed.  Owners of past products such as the iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, iPad 2, new iPad or 4th-gen iPod Touch will be able to upgrade on September 19th free of charge.  Sadly with all of this new technology available I am not getting a new phone anytime soon.  If someone would hire me! I could do a lot more in life.  Oh well; back to daydreaming for me!
