We continue our coverage of Big Boy 4014 as it departs Portola California and heads for Elko Nevada. Leaving the Sierra Nevada Mountains behind, the next leg of the journey leads through the remote desert country of northern Nevada. Big Boy heads east over the former Western Pacific main line over Sand Pass skirting the edge of the Black Rock Desert. Our journey ends in spectacular Palisade Canyon.
