Built as Wisconsin Central F-21 Class 2-8-0 no. 2425 by ALCO in October 1909, it later became Soo Line no. 2425 and saw service in the prairie states. SOO Line superheated the locomotive in 1919 and operated the Consolidation-type until January 1955 when it was retired and donated to the City of Enderlin, North Dakota.
Mineral Range Railroad owner, Clint Jones, acquired 2425 in 2018 but it took a year to arrange its move to the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. The boiler and cab were transported on one truck while another carried the wheels and frame. The tender did not make the move because of its poor condition.
In 2024, the locomotive was acquired by the Big South Fork Scenic Railway of Stearns, Kentucky for eventual operation on its 16-mile-long line in the Bluegrass State. As of March 2025, the locomotive is being restored by Next Generation Rail Solutions, located in Irvine, Kentucky.
