Crowdsourcing Mornings: Draw This Book

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Imagine a new kind of children’s book. One your child actually contributes to themselves. A book where their name is on the cover because, without them, it simply wouldn’t exist.

We’re Alli + Ed of Brydon Books, a children’s book publisher that puts kids into the heart of the story by harnessing their unique creative skills with our series of story/drawing books, called…

DRAW THIS BOOK!

By backing this Kickstarter, you’ll help fund the creation and printing of the first two books in this exciting, new series:

Draw This Book: Pirate Adventure + Draw This Book: Animal Party

These innovative, hybrid story-drawing books, perfect for kids aged 4 – 7, have all the words but – OOPS! – most of the pictures are missing! Draw This Book invites the reader to become the illustrator, allowing your child, grandchild, niece or nephew, to draw themself into the story and set off on a wild adventure.

In Pirate Adventure, a day at the beach turns into an unexpected journey for YOU – the main character – as you draw your way through this story! Dive into the ocean, swim with tropical fish and get pulled onto the deck of a giant ship, then meet a terrifying pirate captain who threatens to make you walk the plank if ye don’t find some treasure, and fast!

In Animal Party, a regular day turns into an absolute beastly bash for YOU – the main character – as you draw your way through this story! Draw dog, rabbit, sloth, monkey, llama, elephant and many more animals in their natural habitats. Help each one out of trouble and bring them to your bedroom for a real zoo of a do. But watch out: a fearsome lion is on the way!

Book Specs

Both Pirate Adventure and Animal Party are 32-page, sturdy hardcover picture books, printed in full-color to a very high quality in the UK. We plan to print the insides using 150gsm uncoated paper, so you can draw right on the books’ pages using crayon, colored pencils and markers. The pages can withstand bold and/or dark colors without bleeding through to the other side.

Our books recognize children as the artists, creators, explorers, makers, doers, movers & shakers that they already are.
While we all know how creative and imaginative children can be, and how important reading time is to families, we also know that books have a lot to compete with – YouTube, iPads, Netflix, gaming consoles, and countless apps. Kids are naturally drawn to the interactivity of screens. Yet, as parents, we’re all looking for ways to reduce screentime, right? The science says that less screen time is better for our kids, and that reading books stimulates new brain pathways as kids are growing up.

But, kids still do love to make, draw and explore through storytelling in the real world.
