Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Hello everybody! My name is Djamila Knopf, and I am an illustrator based in Leipzig, Germany. I love creating art that captures a sense of wonder and nostalgia. For me, it’s important for my work to feel unique and personal.

Two of my favourite things in life are art and books, and bringing them together in this way is the most rewarding endeavour I can think of. I am incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to compile a second book as a sequel to Komorebi: The Art of Djamila Knopf, where I get to talk about the creative process and its ups and downs. Many of the paintings you’ll see in this book were made during a difficult period in my life, when world events and other circumstances dulled my enjoyment of creating. It left me feeling overwhelmed, and I forgot why I started making art in the first place. Luckily, I’ve been able to come out of that phase, and this book is a way of reclaiming everything I’d forgotten, and reminding myself why I love art so much. For me, it’s a light in the dark – hence the very aptly named title.

I’m so excited to be working again with 3dtotal Publishing to bring Luminescence: Shedding Light on the Creative Process with Djamila Knopf out into the world. My goal with this second addition is to demystify the creative process by breaking it down into smaller parts and making it accessible. I answer questions like: Why do I make art? Where do I find inspiration? How do I approach visual storytelling? How do I evoke emotions through artwork? and How do I make art that is unique and personal?

By sharing my experiences, I hope you will gain a deeper understanding of who you are as an artist, and how your own creative process works.

Thank you so much for backing this project!

Inside the book, you’ll also find multiple tutorials and studies, as well as brand-new artwork, some of which was made exclusively for Luminescence. I will cover topics such as why you should make art, finding your artistic voice, and magic realism, making sure to pose some guiding questions along the way.

As of February 7th, this project has raised $89,000 of their $25,104 goal. This project has 8 days left to raise as much as it can. For a pledge of $34, you will get one book.  For a pledge of $38, you will get one signed book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1906838062/luminescence?
