Crowdsourcing Mornings: Launch Melanie Ida Chopko’s New Album

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Thank you so much for taking time to learn about my new album! My name is Melanie Ida Chopko, and I’m singer, songwriter and musician. I’m from New York and now live in North Carolina.

This year I began my 3rd recording project, a full-length album of original songs from my journey to give and receive love. I love these songs, and am inviting your support to finish the project!

As an independent/inter-dependent artist, I work directly with my community to release new music. You are my record label, here alongside me.
I know we as a society are ready to move on from what we experienced in 2020 and 2021, but I don’t want to get too far from the insight I had in those years. I felt more clearly than ever before that my well being is inextricably linked to my connection to other people and other beings. As it becomes more and more possible to operate in the world with minimal human interaction, what else do I replace when I do that? How do I let love in, and heal the loneliness so prevalent within my country, so inherent in capitalism?

Many people don’t know that full-length records involve the work of so many people! Each one of them is charging me a very reasonable rate for their expertise and creativity – and all together, it definitely adds up! And, creating in collaboration is how I’m wired. I’m endlessly supported and enlivened by real art by real people, and what happens when we make work together.

Some people play, record, and mix every single song themselves and crank out frequent albums that way. Props to the Sufjan Stevens’ among us! I am not one of those people. I go above and beyond when there are people beside me, and often think of the Barbara Sher quote: “Isolation is a dream killer.”

As of November 15th, this project has raised $11,000 of their $17,000 goal. This project has 3 days left to raise the $17,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $10, you will get a digital download of the album.  For a pledge of $25, you will get one CD.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/melanie-ida-chopko/melanie-ida-chopkos-new-album?
