Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment! Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others. The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal. Please enjoy today’s featured project!

What will happen? Will it hurt? Will I wake up? What is anesthesia, besides a really hard word to say?
As a nurse anesthetist, I specialize in anesthesia. And as a mother to two boys, I searched for a book that would prepare them, in their own words, if they ever needed surgery. But there wasn’t one. There were no quality picture books geared toward kids heading to surgery, and none that focused on the scariest part, the anesthesia.
Magic Air: Ten Kid-Sized Steps to Surgery is a fun guide to surgery, from picking out a stuffed animal to bring, to skipping breakfast, to breathing the “magic air” of anesthesia!
The story is written from the perspective of a school-aged kiddo who has told his younger brother all about what to expect during surgery and is sharing his “10 Steps to Surgery!” with you! The narrator directly engages the reader, who is likely headed to their own surgery soon.
Four million kids have surgery every year. Let’s get them ready.
This book focuses on key steps that any child will encounter on surgery day (Meet the nurses! Meet the doctors! Meet the anesthesia team!). This will leave them prepared and eager to check off the next task. Everything about the hospital is new, overwhelming, and out of your child’s control, so anticipating the next steps will reduce the overall stress of the day.

As of October 14th, this project has raised $22,500 of their $7,500 goal. This project has 15 days left to raise as much as it can. For a pledge of $22, you will get one signed hardcover book. For a pledge of $34, you will get one book, and donate one book. To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magicairbook/magic-air-ten-kid-sized-steps-to-surgery?
