Crowdsourcing Mornings: Essential Queer Voices Of U.S. Poetry

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

The Essential Voices series intends to correct misrepresentation and misunderstanding in the broader culture. It has at its heart the ancient idea that poetry can reveal our shared humanity. This anthology features over 100 poets who illuminate the queer experience in the U.S., including Kaveh Akbar, Rick Barot, Frank Bidart, Richard Blanco, Jericho Brown, Franny Choi, CAConrad, Natalie Diaz, Mark Doty, Nikky Finney, Nikki Giovanni, Marilyn Hacker, Joy Harjo, Robin Coste Lewis, Timothy Liu, Eileen Myles, Carl Phillips, Justin Phillip Reed, Kay Ryan, Sam Sax, Richard Siken, Danez Smith, Ocean Vuong, and many others. Diverse in styles, subjects, and demographics, the book is a mirror to the lived experience of nearly one century of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender poets.

The anthology will be published by Green Linden Press on Februrary 6, 2024. The purpose of this fundraiser is to help cover the cost of permission requests, advertising, and promotion, and to help ensure the future success of the Essential Voices series.

This is a time of dangerous legislation and renewed homo- and transphobia—we’re calling it “the Rainbow Scare”—when states across the country are passing laws to limit personal freedoms and to make it more difficult to be who we are and to ban books that portray a wider world view. The publication and distribution of this anthology is both an open embrace of hard-won freedoms and a raised fist of resistance. Who better than the poets to say, I am here, we are here, we are human, we are you. This book will almost certainly be banned somewhere, and that makes us proud.

As of July 26th, this project has raised $6,330 of their $8,000 goal. This project has 1 days left to raise the $8,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $18, you will get one eBook.  For a pledge of $25, you will get one book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/greenlinden/essential-queer-voices-of-us-poetry?
