Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

My name is Bijhan Agha. I grew up in Seattle, Washington. I loved comics, cartoons, and superheroes. As I became older I also realized I was queer. So I wanted to create a comic book character like me: trans, multiracial, and Middle Eastern.

I knew when I wanted to make this comic that I wanted to work with someone who knew and cared about the history of comics in general, and had a strong understanding of the style I wanted to evoke. In this search for partnership, I found renowned Indian commercial illustrator, Swaptrap. He was already a master of many styles, and wanted to see if he could master this type as well. As you will see with the artwork provided, he did so and more.

Time Wars: the Adventures of Kobra Olympus is meant to be a 6-issue miniseries about the adventures of a young trans lesbian Muslim woman who is also guided by messages from the future to battle literal monsters who live in the darkness. She uses technology from the future to become the superhero Agent Tha and unravel the fiendish plots of various scheming villains.

The style of art, as well as the style of storytelling, is deeply influenced by midcentury creators like Bill Everett, Jack Kirby, Harry G Peter, William Moulton, and Stan Lee. The bold black lines and block colors evoke a bygone era, while the setting and tone are irrefutably contemporary. We wanted to contribute to the future of comics, while also honoring their past.

Each issue of “Time Wars: the Adventures of Kobra Olympus” is meant to function as a stand-alone story, with some connections between stories. Once we print this issue, it would take us roughly 3 months to produce a new issue, and then another 2 months to crowdsource the funds to print it. Therefore we can expect a new issue once every 6 months, give or take, depending on the success of the campaigns.

As of June 27th, this project has raised $1,300 of their $2,000 goal. This project has 34 days left to raise the $2,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $2, you will get one digital comic.  For a pledge of $6, you will get one print comic.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jamsheedstudios/kobra-olympus-issue-1-battle-of-the-blood-golem-0?
