Crowdsourcing Mornings: Stagiaire | A Short Film

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Stagiaire follows Leila, an ambitious young cook on her first day training in an elite restaurant kitchen. In the course of one day, she endures hazing from the overwhelmingly male team, begins to make allies, and even impresses the Chef with her grasp on his cuisine. But a heated encounter in the walk-in puts her new position on the line.

Directly inspired by my own experiences and stories told to me by peers in the industry, Stagiaire is film is about a capable woman who has to defend herself in a–dare I say– toxically masculine space. The story tracks Leila’s arrival in the kitchen, provoking the type of jealousy sparked by the combustible combination of creative ambition and gender dynamics in a pressure cooker. What evolves is a series of events that leads to a heated encounter in the walk-in that costs our heroine her job. It’s a swift, visceral tale that throws you into the kinetic culture of back-of-house and leaves you with a punch in the gut.

As of March 31st, this project has raised $5,700 of their $7,000 goal. This project has 2 days left to raise the $7,000 or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $10, you will get project updates.  For a pledge of $25, you will get a digital screener.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
