Welcome to the Trainscapes segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Trainscapes will feature train content including videos of trains and behind the scenes action of trains and locomotives. Some people have an interest in seeing trains, and we here at Geek Alabama aim to please the train lovers!

The Iowa Traction Railway is the last interurban freight railroad in the country, and operates electric freight in regular service! It’s a step back in time, and amazing operation to watch. All of the locomotives are OVER 100 years old. The amazing crews of the IATR take phenomenal care of the equipment, making it last for years to come!

I had the opportunity to get a tour of this cool railroad, located just outside of Mason City, Iowa. We’ll start off at the railroads shops in Emery, and ride most of the line! Experience what it’s like to be in the cab, and take a look this one of kind operation! After the ride, we’ll get to watch the railroad work a few customers, and interchange with the Union Pacific at CPKC. Progressive Rail does a great job of keeping history alive, and generating clean commerce!
