James Spann is so excited to announce that he is starting and will serve as the Chief Meteorologist for the Alabama Weather Network, a new endeavor to serve all 67 Alabama counties with the most accurate weather coverage possible.
James Spann will be the chief meteorologist of the Alabama Weather Network, the only 24/7 digital weather channel covering the entire state. We’ll provide weather information for all 67 Alabama counties. On a daily basis, you’ll be able to get your weather any time you want no matter where you live in Alabama. And when severe weather hits in any county in Alabama, we’ll be there to provide long form coverage of that event until the threat is gone.
James will still be chief meteorologist at ABC 33/40 in Birmingham. He will be on ABC 33/40 News weekdays at 5:00 and 6:00. James will continue to anchor severe weather coverage for the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa/Anniston/Gadsden market on ABC 33/40 as always.

There will be no changes to James’ social media accounts (and the content on them), but we strongly encourage you to follow the Alabama Weather Network on all platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok.
The app will be live come August 11, the day we go live. It will be available on your phone or tablet! You’ll also be able to watch the Alabama Weather Network on your TV interface (Roku, Apple TV, etc) so you can watch on the “big screen”. It will also be available on our website located at AlabamaWeatherNetwork.com
The Alabama Weather Network will feature a 24/7 stream with updated weather forecasts, fun features, and much more. If any Alabama county comes under a tornado warning, we will be on that stream with live “wall to wall” coverage. Continuous live coverage will also be on the stream during other high impact events such as hurricanes, floods, and winter storms.
AWN will have deep resources and a large team of experienced meteorologists. Dozens of fixed cameras statewide, multiple live streams from chasers in the field, YOUR videos and photos, and much more.
