Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment! Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as, Indiegogo, and others. The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal. Please enjoy today’s featured project!
Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at: https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines
Back in the ancient era of 2024 AD, the animation studio called Jellybox (that’s us!) created a series of shorts to raise awareness about the Animation Guild negotiations. You can watch all eight of these shorts right here:
These shorts became a viral sensation, garnering MILLIONS of views across all social media, with translations into Spanish and French, and eventually creating the Union Yaoi fandom. Since then, these characters have received countless amounts of fan art, memes, and even cosplay.
After the tremendous success of these shorts, we’ve seen people loving these characters in ways we couldn’t have imagined, and because of that…
We’re gonna make MORE!!
Jellybox is partnering up with the original host of these shorts, comedian Adam Conover, to produce a whole new season of informational shorts, to be hosted on Adam’s channels! The shorts will feature the same trio of characters, the titular Umbert Actually, his beloved but dopey husband Misterman Guyfella, and their easily corruptable son Timbert!
We’re going to be covering a broader range of topics, such as media literacy, the history of animation, and the problems plaguing the production of anime, video games, and other forms of entertainment.
(We’ll also show them smooching most likely)
With our funding goal, we hope to produce eight more of these one-minute shorts.
The funding will help cover the cost of labor for writing, research, storyboards, voice-acting, sound design, music, art direction, animation, directing, and post-production, as well as merch fulfillment, Kickstarter fees, and taxes.
As of May 1st, this project has raised $86,000 of their $90,000 goal. This project has 6 days left to raise the $90,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $10, you will get your name in the credits. For a pledge of $15, you will get one postcard.
