Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Salaam!

Our names are Suzanne and Sarah, a doctor and educator, respectively, who grew up together in the United States. We are both of Palestinian descent and were inspired to start this book project to support the many children who have lost limbs in the indiscriminate bombing and intentional restriction of healthcare resources currently taking place in Gaza. In the first two months of the conflict, it has been estimated by UNICEF that 1,000 children have lost lower limbs. Based on this estimate, six months in, experts conservatively estimate that there are close to 3,000 children with limb amputations (as of March 2024).

The intention of this book is to help those with amputations relate with a character who faces many of their same challenges while educating others on the importance of empathy. Additionally, the book includes references to faith and Palestinian culture to inspire hope and resilience. The goal is for profits to be funneled into projects (such as the PCRF Amputee Project) to support the rehabilitation of those with limb difference in Gaza.

We are crowdfunding $8,000.00 to allow us to self-publish and print this book while cutting out the middleman so that all proceeds from future sales of the book can go directly to charities in Gaza.

Read our synopsis below:

The Little Sunbirds of Gaza tells the story of two Palestinian children, Reem and Isa, who find solace and strength in each other’s friendship after both losing limbs.

Despite their physical scars and the challenges they face, both children possess resilient spirits and unwavering faith.

As they navigate the struggles of adjusting to their new lives, Reem and Isa form a special bond through their shared experiences. They find comfort in each other’s company, drawing strength from their mutual understanding and empathy.

Through the eyes of these two remarkable children, readers learn of the unique challenges that children with limb difference face and the strength that lies in each of us when we empower one another to overcome obstacles with courage and compassion.

As of April 28th, this project has raised $6,000 of their $8,000 goal. This project has 22 days left to raise the $8,000 or it will not be funded.
