What should we protect? “The world,” “Love,” or “Piro-Piro”? Four years have passed since “JUNK HEAD” made the world go wild. The latest film, “JUNK WORLD,” depicts the world 1,042 years ago and invites us on another unknown adventure. INTRODUTION The previous film, “JUNK HEAD,” was highly praised by director Guillermo del Toro, who won the Academy Award® for “The Shape of Water,” and was highly praised by him.
It attracted attention in Japan, and many audiences went to the theater, making it a box office success. The latest film, “JUNK WORLD,” further deepens the worldview of the previous film and tells the story of a lost future set in a magnificent and complex underground world 1,042 years ago. New characters that are dark yet humorous and warm also appear, and the story unfolds with astonishing visual beauty created by its original design and meticulous handcrafting. Story: Long ago, humans began developing underground due to the decline of their aboveground habitat. They created artificial lifeforms called Mulligans to serve as laborers. However, Mulligans increased the number of clones of themselves, spreading their influence and rebelling against humans. 230 years after the Third Truce Agreement, humans remained on the surface, and Mulligans ruled the underground world that had spread to a global scale. Something strange had happened in the underground world – A research team consisting of humans and Mulligans was quickly formed to investigate the strange happenings in the underground world.
The human team led by female captain Tris and the Mulligan team led by the original clone Dante both head for their destination, the underground city of Karpbar, but are attacked by Mulligan’s cult, the Gyula Cult. Their target is Tris, a human woman who is considered a rare species. However, Tris is accompanied by a robot named Robin as her guard. “Protect Lady Toris.” The investigation team fights against the “Gyula Cult” and continues their investigation, but is forced to struggle with the overwhelming difference in military strength. In the midst of this fierce battle, they discover a dimensional “distortion.” Robin then plans a plan to transcend dimensions to protect Toris, but… What is the true nature of the mystery and strange events hidden in the underground world? And what decision will Robin make at the end of the battle that transcends dimensions?
