Grammy® nominees Wendy and DB are thrilled to announce the May 15 release of their seventh album for kids and families, Get Your Sunny Side UP.
A vibrant collection of upbeat pop and blues-infused songs that’s been four years in the making, Get Your Sunny Side UP is designed to uplift and inspire kids while acknowledging the ups and downs of childhood. This family-friendly album embraces the messy, beautiful, and hopeful sides of growing up, radiating encouragement and joy through tracks like “Never Give UP” and “Sunny Side UP,” while songs like “I’m In A Mood” and “Ouchie Ya Ya” give space for big emotions and life’s little struggles, and “Talk About It” is a heartfelt call to action for today’s times.
Produced by the acknowledged wizard of the kindie mixing board, GRAMMY winner Dean Jones, with stellar contributions from Grammy winner Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, 2-time Grammy nominee Pierce Freelon, and Latin Grammy nominee Flor Bromley, Get Your Sunny Side UP continues the Wendy and DB tradition of exploring topics ranging from pancakes and sloths to recycling and rainy days, all presented in a positive and playful way.
In true Wendy and DB style, with infectiously buoyant harmonies and verses woven together and traded off, and catchy lyrics that educate and motivate, Get Your Sunny Side UP encourages listeners of all ages to see the glass half full.
“When I’m focusing on a topic, I like to play with opposites: sunny, happy, upbeat emotions versus moody, rainy day, ‘ouchie’ feelings,” says Wendy Morgan. “By talking about both sides, I can express that it’s okay to be happy and also okay to have those not-so-good feelings. This can sometimes be a challenge when it comes to performing the songs! Under Dean Jones’ guidance, we got to dig a little deeper to find creative ways of expressing the meanings of songs like ‘Let’s Make a MeSs,’ ‘Get Your Sunny Side UP,’ and ‘The Science of Pancakes.’ What an exhilarating experience!”
“We actually began work on Get Your Sunny Side UP during the final days of the COVID-19 shutdown,” says Darryl “DB” Boggs. “Over the course of four years, we traveled at least four times to upstate New York to work with Dean Jones in his studio. This project quickly blossomed into a dynamic celebration of collaboration and community. Dean’s studio may be small, but the sound we created there is huge, and that’s quite apparent on this album! The environment in which we wrote, and the kinship among Wendy, Dean, and myself was, as they say, ‘off the charts.’”
Get Your Sunny Side UP will be available at major online outlets, streaming platforms, and at www.wendyanddb.com.
